dogs-and-kids

dogs-and-kids, originally uploaded by phaird.

I've been really lucky with week after week of great weather on my Sunday visits to the park. So many people are taking advantage of it and I've seen many new faces because of that. I've noticed that this summer, their have been more younger kids and babies coming to the park along with their family and dogs. This is really great because kids only fear what they don't know. When introduced to other dogs and a community of dog lovers, it makes a huge difference in a childs acceptance of other animals. I'm looking forward to bringing my boy next summer. He's a little small right now but I know he's going to love it.

Generally, the kids love to play with animals.
If each of them are well looked after, it's a good thing.

I drive by a dog park on the way to work. It's kinda small but always has happy dogs and people in it. Nice pics.

Hi,
I stumbled across your blog from 'blogs of note' on the blogger page. I love your pictures and the idea of dog parks. I'm from the UK and am fortunate to have plenty of open space in which to walk my two Norwegian Elkhounds. Elkhounds are quite headstrong and often 'choose' not to come back when called especially if they have something better to do, so I am always a bit wary of letting mine off around other dogs.

Mine are a little racist I'm afraid. They don't seem to like black dogs. I have no idea why, they have never been treated badly by a black dog or anything! They do love to be with their own kind, and love to go on their holidays to aunty Lynns (she is the breeder and has six elkhounds of her own)where they run around and play like puppies again.

Off to have a look at more of your blog, hope you don't mind.

That is an interesting perspective on children at dog parks! I guess you are right, but I also see it from a different point of view because a) I don't have kids, and b) I have a dog that does not care for children.

When I see kids at dog parks I always get worried if their parents let them run loose after any dog they think is pretty. Because I have a beautiful white American Eskimo that children want to love and pet and hug, and typically put their faces into the dog's face. It scares me because I know he'll snap at them because he is so timid of children. And I really don't want to be held responsible for that in a place that you are supposed to let your dog be able to run free. So it really kind of scares me.

Just my $0.02. I think if I do have children one day, and if I take them to a dog park, I will definitely teach them the correct way to approach dogs (which granted some of the children you see do, but it's the ones that don't that worry me!).

Just checking your site out. Nice pictures by the way. As a pitbull owner, I like check out which dog parks are PB friendly or accepting of the breed. Unfortunately, the breed has been given a bad wrap and hopefully people will see different. Great site!! I will visit again.

I only got rid of my fear of dogs after I adopted a small puppy and it bit me. Curiously, this chased away all my fears, cause it only chewed my finger off a bit. I guess now I imagine dogs are quite inoffensive, or at least that they don't bite hard.

Hello!
I don't know how you will look on this but I came by your blog today for the very first time. I've never been able to understand the passion that some have for blogging but I love reading stuff that awakens the mind and inflames the imagination. I think yours is an admirable blog and reading through your archives was interesting. I couldn't resist the temptation to do just that. The more scope it gave to my mind although I was hoping to read and leave quietly without surprising you with any comment. Perhaps you will be inviting back sometime if you think a counter visit is worth one infringement of your normal routine. I'll look out for your arrival. Until then, take care.

btw: have you seen or read the master and margarita?
